KIGAM Pohang Center — Meeting-room acoustics, refined by PET linear baffles
A project applying recycled-PET linear baffles to the ceiling of a KIGAM Pohang meeting room — taming reverberation for focused presentations and discussion.

The meeting room at the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources Pohang Branch is a space where presentations and discussions never stop. A high ceiling and hard finishes lengthen reverberation, causing speech to overlap and making it easy for concentration to dissipate.
We suspended PET linear baffles from the ceiling at regular intervals so that sound is absorbed before it has a chance to reflect off the ceiling surface. The regular rhythm the baffles create adds visual order to the space alongside their acoustic benefit.
The PET linear baffles are made from recycled PET and shipped in their natural colour without any additional painting. Their environmental credentials, broad colour range, and domestic flame-retardant certification align well with the finishing standards of research and public facilities.
We added carpet tiles with acoustic absorption properties to the floor, working together with the ceiling baffles to reduce reverberation from both above and below simultaneously. With footstep noise also quieted, the room becomes an environment where meeting participants can stay fully focused.
